Castagnola

Castagnola is one of the oldest and most characteristic villages of the Municipality of Minucciano. The village stands perched on a hill above 700 m. asl and enjoys an exceptional sun exposure. Like many of the nearby villages, it entered medieval times between the territories of the Republic of Lucca and followed its fate until the unification of Italy.

The top of the village is dominated by the parish church, dedicated to San Simone and San Giuda and embellished with a baptismal font from the 16th century. From the churchyard you can enjoy one of the most beautiful and famous panoramas of the Garfagnana with the highest peaks of the Apuan Alps that are reflected in the lake of Gramolazzo. At the foot of the hill is the district of "Tintoria".
