Regional Park of the Apuan Alps
Marble mountains overlooking the sea
The Apuan Alps Regional Park, within which the municipality of Minucciano is located, is a territory that extends between Garfagnana and Versilia for about 2000 hectares, and includes a great variety of mountain and hilly environments as well as the famous marble quarries white, from which the famous Carrara marble is extracted.
Majestic peaks from which you can enjoy an incredible view of the sea, spectacular caves, green lakes and alpine landscapes. The Apuan Alps rise up to almost two thousand meters high with Monte Pisanino, a few kilometers from the Versilia coast.
Lakes
The Apuan Alps are rich in water and artificial lakes, created to produce electricity which today have become a fascinating destination, such as Lake Vagli , under which the ghost town of Fabbriche di Carreggine is hidden which in 1946 was completely flooded to build the basin, but also the lake of Isola Santa, on whose banks there is a partially abandoned village and the lake of Gramolazzo
Caves
The limestone mountains preserve karst phenomena in the subsoil. Here there are even 1300 caves surveyed, including the Antro del Corchia in Stazzema, the deepest abyss in Italy, and the splendid Caves of the Wind in Vergemoli, both open for guided tours.
